BARUNAI  IMPRESSIONS :

 

ODISHA is a kaleidoscope of glorious past and modem expression. A  rare and intriguing amalgamation of the old and the new. The ancient kingdom of kalinga is today’s Odisha.
It will not be an exaggeration to say Odisha is a ‘Tourist Delight’. Odisha offers an array of interests to enthral tourists looking for a complete vocation. The state has several ancient and natural attractions for tourists. The pride of odisha is accentuated by the  great sons of the land who by virtue of eminence in their own field have carved out a niche for themselves and for their beloved state.
Barunai Hill: 27 kms from Bhubaneswar. It is also one and half kilometer from Khurda town. Saddle-backed hill, reserve forest, there is a fort at the foot of the hill, raja’s palace give background to the place.At the height of the hill is the temple of Barunai with goddesses Barunai and Karunai. Swarna ganga a perennial spring flows down the hill by the side of the shrine . there are caves out of which pandava guha is capable of accommodating one hundred persons. there are rows of low rocky pallets line the floor and residence of Hindu ascetics.

Just near the south foot hill of Barunai proposed IIT Bhubaneswar has been established at Aragul

Barunia is a small hill situated about two km south of khurdha,in Odisha. It is saddle-backed hill rising in to bare and often inaccessible precipices. Situated at altitude of 305 m above sea level, a major portion of the hill is covered by reserve forest.
There is a fort situated at the foot of hill. The fort is now in a dilapidated state, some traces of its walls and the ramparts still remaining. A temple dedicated to goddesses Barunai, is situated on northern slope  of the hill, about 46 m above the plain.
Barunai hill futures several caves; the largest is the pandavaguha, which can easily accommodate about 100 persons. There are a few ancient inscriptions, of which one is that of Makardhawaja Yogi of 10th century another dated 8th century, and three others inscribed in old kutila characters. A perminnial spring which flows down the hill by the side of the shrine, adds to its charm.

There is a rest house situated near the temple with an accommodation for seven persons.
